Week 5 Assignments

Week 5 Assignments

This week assignment due for grading are A5 which is a science education research journal assignment with a write up on an article from one of these magazines: Science and Children. Science Scope, Science education Journal,  Research in Science ,  and School Science Mathematics. A5 is due on Saturday February 19, 2011. A3 which is Start a Moon-phase journal  is due Monday February 21, 2011.
   A3: Start a Moon-phase journal.
Look for the moon each day and record what you see. Record your comments about when you saw the moon and the prevailing conditions. Draw your observations as well. You need to do this for six weeks of consecutive days. Submit your first entry. The journal will be fully graded in 6 weeks. Look for the "tips" in the book, p. 247.   Add your journal report page to e-folio and provide the link to the page in the NOTES.
Keep in mind reflecting on the following question: What
can you learn about the moon and its motions from observing and recording its
shape and noting the time you saw it?

A5: Review of science education research article. What does research tell us about teaching and learning science? Select an article from Science and Children, Science Scope, Science Education, Journal of Research in Science Teaching, or School Science and Mathematics. Explain why you made your selection and how you would use this area of research in your teaching practice.
NB! name the document: yourname_A5

The assignment of starting a moon phase journal would be cool for the students to do in my class as an assignment. I would have the students do this assignment for six weeks. For this assignment I would ask the students to keep a journal and record their observation of the moon with regard to shape, size, phase, and also to tell me the teacher about the sky in general that the students observed while looking at the moon. Students can use the computer to help the students come up with the moon phase name like for example new moon. I did not like the other assignment for this week and I would not have my students do that assignment while I am their teacher. I feel like the students in the class would enjoy observing the moon. I would use this project of keeping a moon phase journal with third graders and fourth graders up to sixth graders.
