Class 5- January 28, 2011

Today's class was very interesting.  Today the class spent the whole time going over something very important to our schooling which is what is due. Documents should always be spent in a pdf final for final grading. The class went over the lab and asked questions. The observation Float, Sink or??? had to have a table which included a titleand a little summary of what is shown. There were went over what is due. The class should have started the blog. The blog should include the 1st two weeks of class, response to each chapter and a response to nature. There is a rubric for the blog and Dr. Smirnova recommeneded reading the rubric and follow the rubric. The rubric for the blog is in the glossary on the module site.  Under A2 on the module site is about the blog if you need some ideas or are not sure what to put on the blog.

Exploring Science BlogStart your science journal/blog now and keep it throughout the semester. Use blogger.com
science journal/blogcontains all your ideas, notes, and personal reflections about science as you experience this course. These are notes kept in and outside of class. Science is a way of knowing your natural world. What are your observations? Your questions? What do you most want to know? Journals will be a way of contacting your scientific self! When you begin your field work in the schools, you may want to include in your journal thescience experiences you observe or participate in.
NB! Provide the URL to your blog in the NOTES.

The Blog can be done after each class so you could have three entries or done at the end of the week and have one big entry or three entries from the week but done at the end of the week. The Blog should include response to each chapter and a response to something observed in nature which is you nature observation. The nature observation can be a poem, picture, article, or something you observed. On the blog there is something called a follow which enables you to follow other classmates blogs and see what they are writing and read their blog.

Being a follower of a classmate blog  is cool. It is pretty cool is too see what other people write and post on their blog and you can learn something new. It is nice to see the nature observation on other people's blog. It is nice to see someone else blog and how they laid out their blog and what they have posted. As a follow you can make comments on that person's blog and give them feedback on their posts which is nice.

Stuff due by January 30/ 31st (Sunday and Monday) are as follows. The start of the blog for the first two weeks was due. Activity 2 was due on January 30th. The write up for the Float, Sink, or??? observation lab was due on module by January 31st. Activity One: scientific me was due by January 30th. I made my very pretty and was very creative. The response to the questions  for chapters one and two and draw a scientist under the forum cloud An Invitation to Teaching Science. We the class had to share our URL for our blog.If you already did A1 and it was not creative you could try to take it down off module which is hard to do once you submitted it for grading or you could redo it and email it to Dr. Smirnova. I email mine to Dr. Smirnova because I did my A1 and it was not creative but I already submitted it for grading so I could not take it back.

This  is what we did for January 28, 2011 class. It is good to know what is due and what assignments need to be . This time was used wisely to put the whole class on track and up to date about what is due, what has to be done, and what is getting graded.

Blog is a website  that contains an online personal journal with reflection comments and often hyperlinks. Blogs is probably what students in the future are going to be using as personal journals or reflections for classes on what the students saw in class. Blog is helpful for students to have a say in what the students write and it is a great way to keep track of what is happening in the classroom. For this class with Dr. Smirnova my class is doing a blog. It is a nice tool to use to keep track of your reflections of the class. I would prefer that each student in my class use science journal notebooks instead of students having a blog. It would be easier for me as the teacher to collect the science journals each day and more convent for me to grade the assignments.   Blogs are a great way to go paper list when recording journal entries but I would prefer the paper science journal notebooks for my students.
